National Service Scheme (NSS)
National Service Scheme Unit No. 625 of Carmel College of Engineering and Technology was established in the year 2016, thereby providing the youth a new direction and a unique way to contribute to the civil society. The contribution and achievements of National Service Scheme have been noteworthy and much acclaimed with each passing year.
NSS offers a wonderful space to use a part of spare time to empathize and help the needy, to interact more with different people thereby improving communication and level of understanding. Not only does it provide the volunteers with an opportunity to train themselves as the future leaders and decision makers but also equip them with minimum necessary skills to carry out various programmes.
The volunteers of our unit have enrolled themselves in the varied activities under different cells offered by NSS including Blood Cell, Natural Resource Protection Force, Anti-Narcotics and Palliative Cell which go a long way in achieving the goal of NSS in contributing to channelize our youth towards nation building.
The NSS units under the guidance of Vice Chancellor, various Coordinators and Programme Officers provide the much-needed impetus to the scheme and encourage the students to pursue their inner call of selfless service as professed by the Father of our Nation, Mahatma Gandhi.
We are pretty sure that NSS will reach greater heights by the toil and dedication of young students.

OBJECTIVES
The broad objectives of NSS are to:-
- Understand the community in which they work
- Understand themselves in relation to their community
- Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem solving process
- Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility
- Utilise their knowledge in finding practical solution to individual and community problems
- Develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities
- Gain skills in mobilising community participation
- Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitude
- Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disaster and Practice national integration and social harmony
